Interplanetary Jammin’!

I am sure you will join me in applauding our children’s wonderful performance of “Interplanetary Jammin'”. All our students were fabulous whether they were introducers, narrators, props, singers or our closer, everyone worked hard to learn their part. We are about three-fourths of our way through our website based on our aliens and learning about the planets. We hope to unveil it next week. Thanks to all the parents for helping get their children back to school as well as transporting aliens and sending sunglasses, flashlights and baseball hats.

The Aliens Have Landed…with money?

It’s been a busy first full week back. We’ve been very busy getting for our play, Interplanetary Jammin’ next Thursday night 3/22 at 5:30.
We took a day off from play practice on Tuesday to learn about needs and wants from our friends at Merchant’s Bank here in Colchester. The children learned the difference between a need and a want and also explored some other banking terms. We were able to complete crossword puzzles and play a money game. This is a sneak preview to our next Colchester Unit, Civics in Actions.
It was back to work on Wednesday researching our the planets our aliens came from. Thursday and Friday were spent typing up our summaries and putting them up on the website we are building. As you know, our aliens arrived on Friday in many different forms: Model Magic, marker, crayon, styrofoam, legos, recycled materials, marshmallows, family pet pictures re-made and more. Look for our 3-D aliens to be on display at our play next Thursday.
Next week, we’ll be writing a fictional narratives about our aliens!

A “Tweet” Return to School

Our return to school brought new learning with fractions. After 2 days of hard work figuring out fractional parts of a set and labelling fractions, the kids today made Fraction Birds. Making the birds helped the children to practice cutting circles into halves, fourths, eighths, and even sixteenths. Our fraction birds will be landing on a “tree” alongside Mrs. Bonfigli’s fraction birds between our two classrooms in the hallway.

Want to know what these children are typing????? Go to our wiki and see what we’re working on in writing!
