California Native American Presentations

Students will be giving the following presentation to their third grade peers.  After compiling our research on the diverse Native American tribes of California, students worked in a small group to develop a slide based on 1 topic we had researched.  They also wrote notes of what others should say when they presented their slide.  Finally, students will be graded on their speaking and presentation skills.  Following their presentations, students will compare the California Native Americans to another region of Native Americans they learned about through the presentations

Please enjoy our California Native American presentation.

Potlatch: A Native American Celebration of Giving

Just before our December break, the Rock Stars took part in our Third Grade Potlatch.   We are currently studying Native Americans.  Each class took 1 region to learn about and shared a food and gift representative of that region.  Later this month, small groups from each class will spread out among all 7 third grade classes to teach each other about the region they studied.  Our class represented the California Native Americans by sharing berries and greens for our food and necklaces with hand-made recycled paper beads and a sand dollar for our gift.  Enjoy the pictures and video below.  I apologize for the volume on the video; however, I’m sure you can still appreciate the courage it took for our 2 friends to stand up in front of the peers and explain our food and gift.
